Train rammed into a temple during 

             shunting at the yard 








BHOPAL: Six people were injured after a train rammed into a temple during shunting at the yard attached to Gwalior railway station in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday morning. While eyewitnesses claim Barauni - Gwalior Mail express train hit the temple directly, police claim it first hit a tree which collapsed on temple injuring its priest Ram Nivas Sharma, 50, and other people sitting the premises. Major portion of the temple was destroyed following the incident. "Accident occurred at around 7am while the coaches of the train were being attached at the yard, beyond the platform No 4," said ASI K L Rai of government railway police (GRP), Gwalior. Rai said a pair of wheels slipped off the track during shunting that made the train roll freely and astray.

The tree into which the train rammed was located in the temple premises. Three devotees and a labour who were working near the yard also got injured. They were referred to district hospital. Priest and a young boy (whose age could not be ascertained) sustained fatal injuries. Daily wage employees staged a protest at the railway station demanding immediate suspension of the motorman and guard accusing them of negligence. They also demanded free treatment and compensation for the victims.
