AILRSA wants cut in working hours of loco pilots Madurai, Jul 1 :  A day-long symposium on Accident-free Safe Journey organised by the All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA), South Zone has appealed to the Centre to reduce the duty hours of loco pilots from the current 12 hours to six hours, to ensure the safety of the passengers. The railway department is still following the 12 hour-duty announced in 1946. Moreover, 365 days continuous duty sans weekly off, six days continuous night duty cycle were among such callousness rules still practised by the Railway Ministry, R Murali, Zonal Secretary of AILRSA told newspersons here today. In a resolution, the association expressed deep concern over the worsening working conditions faced by loco running staff and criticised the delaying tactics of the Railway Department on fulfilling the long-pending demand of reducing the working hours of loco pilots, he said. Refund rules changed Now cancel railway ticket at least 48 hrs before to get refund Jun 25, 2013 New Delhi:  Railway Ministry today revised its refund rules comprehensively under which passengers will have to present their confirmed tickets at least 48 hours before the journey instead of existing 24 hours to get the maximum refund. The new rules, which are aimed at facilitating early confirmation of wait-listed passengers, will come into effect from July 1. To get a refund with cancellation charges of 25 percent of the fare, passengers will now have to cancel their confirmed tickets within 48 hours and at least six hours before the train’s departure against the existing four hours, the ministry said. Reuters The existing window of time for the same amount of fare deduction is between 24 hours to four hours before the train’s scheduled departure. Railway is deducting a minimum per passenger cancellation charge at the flat rate of Rs 120 for AC first class/executive

Now, general waiting ticket to get confirmed before tatkal quota The Tatkal/Current rail ticket reservation will no more get weightage over normal waiting tickets. Generally people have to suffer in the journey as their tickets doesn’t confirm even if they have made reservations much before the date of journey. While those who make Tatkal or current reservations get confirmed tickets just a day before travel. But now there is a change in the ongoing procedure. Considering the summer rush the Railway Department has decided to give preference to the general waiting tickets over Tatkal tickets. As per the new rule general waiting tickets will be given preference over current tickets while allotting berths in the extra coaches. Thus first of all thousands of passengers who make reservations well in advance will get their seats followed by Tatkal quota.
